SAN DIEGO --- Try as they might to fight through the flurries of wind and rain at the PLNU Sea Lion Invite on Monday, the Biola Eagles and the other 17 teams in the field had to end their round early and attempt to come back on Tuesday.

Head Coach Jane Carr's group was able to play through about 11 or 12 holes each before the horn was sounded to suspend play. The teams will regroup to start play at 8 a.m. Tuesday and play out the first round to register official results before deciding if they can proceed to finish the previously scheduled 36 holes of the tournament.

"We were on the course a little over four hours and had on again off again downpours," said Carr. "It was crazy out there today. In all my years we have never not finished a round, nor had that much water."

The Eagles currently sit at +24 through 11 holes with the wind and rain affecting their play. Marcel Manalo leads the team with two birdies and a score of +4 midway through the round while Jules Loibl and Tori Roeske aren't far behind at +5 and +8, respectively, after they also birdied a hole each on Monday.

"These girls are resilient; it isn't easy to stand over a shot while someone pours a bucket of water over you," said Carr. "Despite the weather they were making incredible shots and still getting pars and birdies. At one point there was so much rain on the fairways that it was difficult to find relief from casual water.

"It makes me smile when I hear players say 'I really had fun out there today', concluded Carr. "As one of my players said, 'attitude is a decision'."

Biola impressive shots resulted in a number of saved scores throughout the day. Loibl carded seven par scores on the afternoon with freshman Sami Penor paring five holes of her own on the way to a +7 score through 11 holes.

The Eagles will return to the Rancho Bernardo Inn GC with the rest of the field at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
