Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Brandon Taylor, Assistant Sports Information Director

Cold Start In Hilo

Biola played a great second half but could not overcome an 18-0 run from the Vulcans to start the game.

HILO, Hawaii --- No one could stop Jazz Benn from beyond the arc in the second half of Monday's game at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

After going scoreless in the first 20 minutes, the sophomore crossed the 20-point threshold for the second time this season with six three-pointers in the second half on her way to 20 points.

Benn's explosion and Tatum Brimley's game-high 22 points pushed the Eagles to 65 points on the night on the most three-pointers Biola has made in a conference game this season (13). But a great shooting night from the University of Hawaii at Hilo, including the Vulcans' 18-0 run to start the game, resulted in a 75-65 loss for the Eagles in the final game of their Hawaii trip.

The Vulcans earn their third conference win of the season after draining all six of their three-point attempts in the first quarter and keeping with Biola during the Eagles big second half. The Eagles will head back to California with a record of 9-12, 7-8 PacWest.

Biola faced its biggest deficit of the first half in the first four minutes of the contests after it missed its first four shots and turned the ball over six times. The Eagles didn't get their first field goal of the game until there were two seconds left in the first quarter. But that early drought was easily forgotten when Biola's offense finally heated up in the second half.

UH Hilo pushed its' lead to a game-high 20 points at 42-22 three minutes into the second half. But five three-pointers along with a three-point-play in the quarter from Biola brought the Eagles within 16 point headed into the fourth quarter when Benn would go off.

The Oak Park, California-native basically set up real estate in the left corner during the fourth quarter and sank four three pointers on the way to 14 points in the final period. Benn's fourth make from distance brought the Eagles within six points with 3:08 remaining. But Biola wouldn't hit another three until there was under a minute left and was unable to bring the game any closer.

After making a number of their free throws down the stretch, the Vulcans actually equaled the Eagles' second-half scoring total with 46 points of their own. Allie Navarette lead all scorers with 23 points while she collected 11 rebounds and was joined by two other starters for UH Hilo who also scored in double figures.

Biola will get the rest of the week to recover from the trip to Hawaii. The Eagles next game will be Feb. 12 at home when they host Concordia.
