LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It is not as if Biola Baseball needs to flip the imaginary switch for the start of conference play. The Eagles have had their share of good performances last week despite the 1-4 record and just needs to increase the urgency to win a little bit headed into the four-game set with Hawaii-Hilo.
Troy Stainbrook has not allowed an earned run or extra-base hit in his last three outings and threw five scoreless innings against Hawaii Pacific last Saturday while the Eagles hitters are really warming up at the plate. Five men collected at least five hits last week, with three of them carrying a four-game hitting streak at some point over the past seven days. Ryan Gallegos and Joey Magro both had seven-game hitting streaks before they went hitless in the final game of the HPU series while RobertAnthony Cruz has gotten into his own hitting grove with an active four-game streak and vase knocks in six of the last seven contests. Then you have power coming from the outfield as RJ Bates, Brandon Cody and Jerron Largusa have all hit homeruns while the team has been in Hawaii. Largusa has been particularly productive despite a low batting average because the contact he makes has been solid. Three of the senior's five hits have gone for extra bases while he also swiped two bags against the Sharks.
Biola went 3-1 against the Vulcans in Hilo during the 2018 season.

BIOLA (4-5) at HAWAII HILO (3-6, 1-1 PacWest): Thursday Through Saturday \\ Live Stats
Hawaii Hilo has had an unconventional start to its 2019 season with its first nine games all played against Hawaii Pacific. Thursday's game against Biola will be the Vulcans' first countable competition in 11 days and comes on the heels of a 3-2 win over the Sharks on the road. UH Hilo's results have essentially correlated with the success of their pitchers, as the Vulcans have allowed four runs or less to opponents in their three wins and average 14 runs allowed in their six losses. The common trend that runs through UH Hilo's pitching success is quality relief appearances. In each of those games, the Vulcans turned to a reliever who threw at least two innings to close out the game. John Kea is one of the more highly-regarded relievers in the conference coming into the year and has allowed just four hits in 5.2 innings of work while Kyle Yamada has led the Vulcans at the plate with a team-leading 11 hits and seven RBI's. UH Hilo has just two homeruns on the year compared to six for Biola and has struck out 56 times in nine games. But the Vulcans have hit 14 doubles and have scored eight runs or more on four occasions.
UH HILO charges $5 for general admission and $4 for senior admission to Wong Stadium.
