Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Triple Threats

Biola makes a season-high 13 threes, Treinen drops 27 points.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Basketball is heating up, especially from around the perimeter. Biola has made 21 threes in its last two games, which is the best two-game stretch they've had in that category all year. Thirteen made triples on Saturday night helped lift BU to an emphatic 70-56 win over Hawaii Pacific.

The Eagles' 13 threes is just four off the program's single-game record and is a new season-high. Six of those 13 threes came courtesy Michael Bagatourian. The sophomore had a fantastic night, but even he came up short of Trevor Treinen who led all scorers with 27 points.

Treinen and Bagatourian accounted for 65 percent of the team's scoring on this night in a game where the Eagles trailed just once - at the 3-0 mark.

The two teams were close through the first few minutes, with the Eagles leading just 11-10 with 14:04 to play in the first half. HPU brought it back that close with a seven-point scoring streak, but that was the last real good things that would happen for the Sharks on this night.

After the 11-10 point Biola outscored Hawaii pacific 23-4 to end the half with a massive 35-14 lead. The Sharks were held without a single point from 8:09 remaining in the first half until they opened the second half with a three-point make at 19:39.

The Eagles had the lead as wide as 27 points in the second half (mostly because of Bagatourian's five second-half threes), but HPU was able to take advantage of some late turnovers and a pair of foul outs to get the game back to just a 14-point deficit by game's end.

Treinen's 27-point night was built by 10-of-17 shooting and four made three-pointers. He added seven rebounds and five assists in one of his best all-around performances of the year. The game helped him pass Johnny Griffin (1986-88) for ninth on Biola's all-time scoring list.

All of Bagatourian's 18 points came from beyond the three-point arc. It was the first time in his Biola career where that's been the case.

Alex Talma ended up just behind the other two with 15 points of his own. He had a wonderful bounce back performance, grabbing 12 rebounds to record his first double-double since Feb. 2 (at Hawaii Pacific).

The three big scorers had their outings powered by freshman Alex Wright. Wright recorded Biola's second double-digit assist performance of the season, dishing 11 dimes in his 35 minutes. The Eagles' previous best mark this season was 10 from Treinen in a win over West Coast Baptist.

With the victory Biola has clinched at least a .500 record this season. The Eagles improved to 14-12 and 10-10 in  PacWest play with two games left on the schedule.

The Eagles host Dominican (8-18, 4-16 PacWest) at home this coming Thursday to kick-off the final week of the year. It's a FREE CHICK-FIL-A day.
