Everybody Hits!

Biola gets 10 runs and had contributions up and down the lineup in win over OKBU.

TUCSON, Ariz. --- The offensive explosion continued in game two of the 2019 Cactus Classic as Biola Softball chalked up its second win of the day by hanging a 10-spot against Oklahoma Baptist.

The Eagles had 11 hits, including three homeruns, to compile a double-digit run output for the first time this season in a 10-4 win. Paula Damas pitched the entire game for the Eagles and ended up with her first win of the year after holding the Bison to four runs while striking out eight.

The game was not always a sure bet as Biola found itself trailing 2-1 heading into the fourth inning of play. However, the Eagles scored three in the fourth, three in the fifth and three in the sixth to take full control of the contest.

The fourth inning saw back-to-back homeruns by Kayla Neff and Hailey Boyett to get the Eagles' offense back off the ground and secure the lead for the remainder of the game. Biola had been held to just two total hits in the first three innings, but the fourth inning was enough to force the Bison starter out of the game.

Things didn't get much easier for OBU pitchers though as the lineup continued to produce from top to bottom in both of the next two innings. The third homerun of the game came in the fifth inning as Kylie Velasco hit a two-run bomb to secure her third-straight multi-RBI game.

In addition to her two RBI Velasco scored twice and recorded two hits. She was one of four Eagles to have multiple hits in this ballgame. Those hitters proved Head Coach Nikki Udria's strategy effective, since they were the 1-4 batters.

The big blow in the sixth inning came off the bat of Kaile Chavez. The senior hit her first extra-base hit of the new year (a double) to drive in two and bring Biola to its final tally of 10 runs.

OKBU recorded one run in the sixth to keep the game from ending early via run rule. Then they picked up another with a solo homerun in the final inning to make it 10-4.

It was an incredibly balanced offensive effort for BU as every member of the starting lineup either scored at least once or drove in at least one run.

The win helps Biola improve to 2-2 on the season in advance of their first matchup against ranked competition. They face No. 21 Colorado Mesa Friday night.
