LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was not destined for Biola Softball to play on a Sunday. After a team trip to church, the Eagles tried to get their season-opening series vs. CSU San Marcos in during a drizzly day at Freedom Field. The two teams got 2.2 innings in before an hours worth of decent downpour forced the game to get called off by the umpires.
Since five innings were not completed none of the statistics for the game will count, unless the two teams decide to schedule a make-up at a later date. Since this was already a rescheduled series and it's a non-conference game it is unclear at this time if the series will be rescheduled. Keep an eye on this site in the coming weeks for updates.
It's a shame the game will be lost as Head Coach
Nikki Udria's team was looking great. The Eagles had built a 7-0 lead on the Cougars with a six-run first inning and
Sicili Brittingham solo homerun in the bottom of the second.
Paige Austin was cruising in the circle, posting 2.2 shutout innings and allowing CSUSM their first hit (a single) seconds before the rain delay was called.
The Eagles had five hits accumulated, including 2-rbi knocks from seniors
Missy Poti and
Andi Hormel and a 2-for-2 start for the freshman, Brittingham.
Biola's next scheduled contest is this coming Tuesday night vs. Hope International. The Eagles host the Royals at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
