ALISO VIEJO, Calif. --- Once an Eagle, always an Eagle. At least that's the case for new track & field signee Sophia Morris. She joins Biola's track & field team after a successful high school career at Santa Margarita Catholic High School.
Morris is a sprinter and hurdler who plans to run 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay when she arrives at Biola. She also plans to study psychology and pursue a career as a clinical psychologist.
"I wanted to attend a solid Christian college with high-level academics and competitive athletics," said Morris. "Biola was among the colleges on my list, but once I visited, I decided Biola was where I wanted to spend the next four years of my life."
Morris competed three varsity seasons at SMCHS, highlighted by her 2019 Trinity League MVP award. She helped lead the team to a pair of CIF Track & Field championships the last two seasons.
In addition to the outstanding athletic achievements, Morris has been recognized for her leadership abilities and work ethic with the track team's 110% Award and "Most Consistent" award.
She comes to Biola with a 400m PR of 1:00.23 and a 300m hurdles PR of :45.36, set this past May at the CIF meet.
"There's something different about Biola that sets it apart from other schools—and that's Jesus. Every Biola student, coach and counselor that I have met so far has been so kind and welcoming," said Morris. "But it's not a fake kindness…it's genuine love and joy. That's the kind of character that only comes through a relationship with God. I am beyond excited to live, study, and compete in that kind of environment, where everyone is constantly seeking God's will and striving to live for him. I can't wait to compete at Biola and continue to glorify God in all that I do!"
She's the leader of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes group on her campus and is also a member of the National Honor Society.
Morris had an uncle attend Biola and her cousin Annika is currently a freshman at BU. Look out for Morris and her teammates at the track practicing next fall and competing in Spring 2021.
