PEORIA, Ariz. ---- Pitcher Kylee Messmer signed her National Letter of Intent this November to join Head Coach
Nikki Udria's 2020-21 recruiting class, giving the Eagles another live arm in the circle from a powerhouse Arizona softball program that has won 40 games in Messmer's first two years on varsity.
Taking a big pitching role for Sunrise Mountain High this season, Messmer helped the Mustangs to an 18-0 start in 2019. The right-hander was credited was a sub-0.50 ERA on April 8 when Sunrise Mountain was ranked the No. 19 high school softball team in the nation by MaxPreps. Then the Mustangs went as high as No. 11 in the rankings
three weeks later when the pitching staff limited opponents to 30 runs across the first 18 games of the season.
Messmer and her teammates also limited opponents to one run or less in 10-straight games from February 28 to March 29 of her junior season.
Even with one more varsity season ahead of her, Messmer has already received a number of impressive awards for her efforts on the mound. These included AIA 4A West Valley Region 1st team, AIA 4A West Valley Region Defensive Player of the Year and Peoria Unified School District All District 1st team.
Off the field, Messmer enjoys taking part in cross-cultural outreach opportunities with her church. She has been on three mission trips to Mexico where she helped fix an orphanage while evangelizing to the people there.
"I learned about Biola when I first visited the campus with my church's summer camp. Ever since then I felt like God was setting up a path for me to not only be able to attend the school, but to continue playing softball as well," said Messmer. "I am so excited to continue my education and my softball career in such a God centered atmosphere."
Messmer plans to major in Communication Sciences & Disorders in the fall, with the hopes of working with kids and helping them better their speech and self confidence.
