WINCHESTER, Calif. --- Twins Abie and Brie Nowak have shared a number of big moments on the softball field together. Members of the Corona Angels powerhouse travel ball team since they were in middle school and a Vista Murrieta High School team that went 21-8 in 2019, Abie and Brie will both strengthen the depth of Head Coach Nikki Udria's infield with their official signings this month. 

Abie Nowak with bring a left-handed bat and play first base when the duo enrolls at Biola next fall. Brie will play 60 feet down the first-base line from her sister at catcher as the two both plan to major in elementary education at Biola. 

Both Nowak sisters hope to become teachers who make a positive impact in the lives of young children, probably similar in many ways to the impact they had on the Mustangs' success on the softball field during their junior season. Vista Murrieta posted a 14-3 league record in 2019, winning 10 league games in a row from March 20 to April 17 according to MaxPreps, and advanced to the second round of the CIF Southern Section playoffs.

Abie and Brie Nowak will also join a growing legacy of sisters who have played concurrently for Biola Softball. Current pitching coach Kristen Halte (nee Larson) and Leslie Larson played on the team from 2008 to 2012. Sisters Brooke and Bria Madrid were leading contributors on the 2014 and 2015 softball teams that qualified for NAIA Nationals, earning a combined six all-conference recognitions during their time with the Eagles. Then sisters Kasey and Andi Hormel were fixtures in the starting lineup in 2017 and 2018 as the Eagles prepared to transition to NCAA DII.  

The Nowaks are certainly excited about being the pair that will carry this Biola Softball tradition into the next decade and about what playing together will mean to them and their family: 

"I am super excited for my future career at Biola University. It is a little less than two hours from my hometown so I am happy that my family will be able to watch me play my last few years on the field," said Abie. "Being able to finish my athletic career with my twin sister is very special to me. I know I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for my Coaches and my family."

"I chose to come to Biola because I knew it was where I was meant to be," Brie said. I am very excited to create new relationships and continue my walk with God."
