LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Sami Hover picks up her first career CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Wednesday.

Hover is the second Eagle this season to earn Academic All-District recognition, joining Jake Munivez of the Biola Men's Soccer team.

The 2019 Academic All-District® Volleyball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Biola is a part of NCAA Division II District 8, which includes the PacWest, California Collegiate Athletic Association and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Hover is one of three PacWest Conference players to be featured on the seven-person team. She has the second-highest cumulative grade point average of anyone honored from district 8 (3.98). Hover is majoring in Biblical and Theological Studies and has a minor in psychology.

The Academic All-District winners are now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-American selection. Biola Volleyball has not earned Academic All-American selection yet in the NCAA Division II era.

To be eligible for these awards student-athletes must be sophomores or above with a cumulative grade point average over 3.30. The awards are voted on by the members of CoSIDA in the student-athletes' district and takes into account both the GPA and the on-court performance of the individual, which is what makes landing on this list quite prestigious.

Hover is clearly a great student, but when you add to that her tremendous work as Biola's libero it's a no-brainer. She's on the way to eclipsing 600 digs for the second-consecutive year and will have a very, very good shot at breaking Biola's all-time digs record next fall.

Hawaii Hilo's Bria Beale and Hawaii Pacific's Kirah Boynton-Brown are the other PacWest Conference student-athletes on the all-district list. 

The women's volleyball CoSIDA Academic All-America team is released on Dec. 10.
