PRESCOTT, Ariz. --- Three members of Biola Women's Golf began play at the ERAU Coed Invitational with two rounds on Monday, playing as individuals in the 48-player field. 

All three Eagles, Courtney Jackson, Bella Larson and Rachel Reynolds, ended the day in the top-half of the leaderboard, a particularly notable accomplishment for Jackson and Larson because this is the first tournament of the year for either student-athlete. 

For her part, junior Rachel Reynolds (85-82) improved upon her showing at the RJGA Shootout two weeks ago with a better start and more consistency over 36 holes. Reynolds made a number of improvements in her second round, which included two birdies over her first three holes of her second playthrough. 

Her showing on the par-three eight was a big boost to Reynolds' strong start to the second round, as the junior started both rounds on that hole and birdied it the second time around. Doing the same on 10 helped Reynolds move up two spots on the leaderboard after the second round and puts her within striking distance of the best finish of her Biola career: a 17th-place finish at the UC Santa Cruz Spring Invite in March 2018. 

The senior Larson (79-83) had Biola's strongest start to the tournament, recording three birdies on the front nine to score the first sub-80 of her career with the Eagles. Larson wrapped up the first round in 12th place and remained in the top-20 with her 83 in the second round. She's still in reach of the top-10, only seven strokes away, and has shown the ability needed to jump up the leaderboard with four birdies total on the day. 

Freshman Courtney Jackson (86-79) made the most progress for Biola players during the second round, completing her second playthrough with the Eagles' second sub-80 round of the day. Jackson's seven-stroke improvement was the best on her team and the second-best among participants in the top-25. And her consistent scores of 39 on the front nine and 40 on the back carried her six spots up the board to 21st place. 

Another step up for Johnson on Tuesday would make her the third Biola freshman in as many years to earn a top-20 finish in her first collegiate tournament. Sami Penor finished in 16th place in her first tournament a year ago while Sophia Karnazes tied for 14th at the same ERAU Coed Invitational in 2017. 

Johnson will start her third round two strokes outside of 20th place and five strokes away from the top-15.
