Eagles Land In NCAA Regional Rankings

Biola Women's Soccer debuts at No. 6 in West Region rankings.

October 30, 2019

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Women's Soccer was ranked No. 6 in the first NCAA DII West Region Rankings released by the NCAA National Office on Wednesday. This marks the first time Head Coach Erin Brunelle's team has appeared in an NCAA regional poll. It is also the first time the Eagles were eligible for the list since Biola completed its NCAA membership process this past summer.

Biola was the top PacWest team listed in the rankings after the Eagles started conference play with seven-straight wins and had a strong showing in their non-conference schedule. The Eagles have already faced four of the other teams listed in the first West Region poll, including a 1-0 shutout at home over No. 8 Concordia and solid showings in road contests against No. 2 UC San Diego and No. 10 Seattle Pacific.

Since conference play began the Eagles have defeated every PacWest opponent they've faced while posting a 13-to-1 goal differential.

Qualification for NCAA Women's Soccer Championships is determined by a performance indicator that considers the Regional Rankings in its metrics. Biola's No. 6 ranking in the region has pushed its performance indicator score up to seventh among West Region teams, meaning Biola would make the cut if the season ended today because the West Region sends seven teams to the tournament.

While the teams above Biola may move in the rankings with the CCAA and GNAC tournaments right around the corner, the Eagles have five more regular season PacWest matches to fill out their resume for regional selection. Their second-to-last home match of the year takes place this Thursday, when Biola hosts Chaminade for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
