WAIKOLOA, Hawaii --- There was significant movement among the top five teams during the second round at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate on Tuesday. Head Coach Jane Carr's group dropped out of the top spot after shooting a 311 on the day. But the Eagles held their ground in fourth place and were still the best PacWest representative by far thanks to four sub-80 counting scores. 

Sami Penor's card wasn't included among the counting scores for the first time in a long time. But her score of 80 in the second round was still good enough to keep her in the top-10 as Biola's leading player through 36 holes. Penor's first round score of 71 is still the second-best single-round score at the tournament among the women in the top-20. 

She'll open play Wednesday just two strokes outside of the top-five and ten strokes behind the overall leader who is at +1.  

Biola's best score of the day came from Marcel Manalo (76), who picked up a birdie on the par-five seven and ended the day with five-straight par scores. Manalo's four-stroke improvement from her first round and four spot jump on the leaderboard were both the best improvements of the day for the Eagles. But Alexis Gopfert also had a better day on Tuesday, posting a 78 that was two shots better than her first round.

Much of Gopfert's improvement boils down to her work on the front nine on Tuesday: Gopfert was three strokes better on the front nine in her second playthrough compared to the first round.

Sophia Karnazes matched her first round score and Gopfert with a mark of 78 in the second round after she posted birdies on the 182-yard third hole and the 120-yard 17. She was followed by Jules Loibl (79), who stayed in the top-20 after Tuesday, and Penor. 

Biola will head into the third round with a five-stroke advantage over Chico State for fifth place  and within five shots of Western Washington for third place.
