Gabe Weber PCSC Swimmer of the Week

Weber Earns Swimmer of the Week

The PCSC honors Gabe Weber as its Division II Male Swimmer of the Week.

October 15, 2019

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- For the first time this season a Biola swimmer has captured Pacific Collegiate Swim & Dive Conference weekly honors. Freshman Gabe Weber was rewarded for his swims at this weekend's Malibu Invite with the Men's Swimmer of the Week award.

In just his second collegiate meet weekend Weber impressed by swimming the 15th-best 500-freestyle time in all of NCAA Division II. He went 4:42.47 to finish second in the event. His swim was a four-second improvement from the opening meet.

"Gabe was a man on a mission this past weekend and showed why he should be in the conversation for the top distance swimmer in the conference," said Head Coach Ryan Kauth. "Gabe showed in his performances versus some really talented Division I teams that he isn't interested in just being successful among the PCSC. He wants to be the best on any level, and go to lengths that other swimmers aren't willing to go to. He truly lives outside of his comfort zone, and I believe this won't be the last swimmer of the week award he receives this season."

Weber also placed second in the 200-butterfly with a 1:58.13. It was his first time swimming that event this year. He also added a top-5 finish in the 100-backstroke (:57.91) to confirm top-5 marks in all three individual events on the weekend.

He and the Eagles have this week off before returning to competition at UC Santa Cruz on Oct. 25 and the Bay Area Invite on Oct. 26.
