ABOUT LAST WEEK: Biola Men's Basketball had a really good week. The Eagles competed for a full 40 minutes against No. 24 Point Loma, coming up just three points short in a home contest with the Sea Lions. Then, Biola shot the lights out in the second half of a win over Notre Dame de Namur to begin its Northern California road trip with a bang. Four Eagles averaged double digits last week, with Trevor Treinen, Alex Talma, Michael Bagatourian and Alex Wright all averaging 29 minutes or more and 12 points or more while BU went 1-1. The 82 points scored in the win over NDNU is just the third time this season Biola's topped 80 points in a win. Treinen paired 29 points with 11 assists in the two games this week to appear on the PacWest assists leaderboard. The Eagles head into this week as one of two teams tied for sixth in the conference with a 3-4 record. They will play the other 3-4 team (ART U) Monday night.

BIOLA (7-6, 3-4 PacWest) at ACADEMY OF ART (3-9, 3-4 PacWest): Monday, Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m. \\ Live Stats \\ Live Video ($8/game) \\ Due to facility issues at Kezar Pavilion, games will be hosted at Holy Names (Tobin Gymnasium)
Biola and the Urban Knights meet for the first time this season in a "neutral site" road contest at Holy Names' Tobin Gymnasium. The Eagles lost last season's only meeting between these two sides, 77-73, in a game where Trevor Treinen and Michael Bagatourian combined for 39 points and neither team ever led by more than eight points. The Urban Knights lost by 11 to Hawaii Hilo their last time out (Friday), but had won two in a row just before that. One of those two wins was considered one of the "biggest wins in program history" as ART U beat then-No. 12 Chaminade, 71-69. The Urban Knights are led by one of the top scorers in the PacWest Conference, Andrija Blatancic. Blatancic averages 17.4 points-per-game this season and was huge in the upset win over the Silverswords, scoring 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting and adding 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Blatancic's first game of the year was Nov. 29 and he's only appeared in seven of the Knights' 12 games so far. Before Blatancic's season debut, the Urban Knights were averaging just 59 points-per-game. Since his arrival, they score about 67 points-per-game. Biola's allowed its opponents exactly 67 points-per-game so far this year. This will be the Eagles' second game in three days as part of a stretch of four games in eight days. ART U leads the all-time series vs. Biola, 1-0.

BIOLA (7-6, 3-4 PacWest) at DOMINICAN (6-8, 2-6 PacWest): Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. \\ Live Stats \\ Live Video ($8/game)
It's a bird battle in the Bay Area on Thursday evening as the Eagles and Penguins go toe-to-toe (talon-to-flipper?) for the first time this season. Biola and Dominican med just once in the 2017-18 season, with Biola coming away victorious in a close game at home, winning 70-66. Biola has won the last nine meetings between these two teams and holds a 13-1 advantage in the all-time series. Dominican lost its last game (vs. Chaminade) and has lost five of its last six. This is the final game of a six-game homestand for the Penguins. Biola is looking to make DUC finish that stretch with a 1-5 record, with Dominican's only win coming in a wild 85-80 double-overtime game against Hawaii Pacific last Wednesday. Cedric Thomas has been the biggest threat for the Penguins throughout the season. He's led them in scoring 11 times in their 14 games and has the best scoring average on the team to this point (17.4). He and Sam Averbuck (10.6) are the only ones in double-digits on a Penguins team that scores just over 67 points-per-game on average. Thomas scored 13 points in 31 minutes against Biola in the game last year. Dominican has a much different look than it did last year, missing leading scorer and all-conference player, Jeremiah Gray. Gray averaged 19 points and torched Biola for 24 to keep the Penguins in that game a year ago. Trevor Treinen scored 23 in that game and led a high scoring output from the trio of he, Alex Talma and Bagatourian (54 points). Biola took care of the basketball that day (six turnovers), which helped secure the narrow victory. Ball control will once again be center stage in this matchup. The Eagles look to be trending upward in that category, only having eight turnovers in Saturday's win over NDNU after having three-straight double-digit turnover games and four in the last five times out.

BIOLA (7-6, 3-4 PacWest) at HOLY NAMES (4-9, 3-5 PacWest): Saturday, Jan. 12 at 3 p.m. \\ Live Stats \\ Live Video ($7.95/game) \\ LAST MEETING: Biola def. HNU, 61-50
Biola finishes its long week in Northern California with a Saturday afternoon getaway game at Holy Names. It will be the second game of the week at Tobin Gymnasium, as the Hawks graciously opened their gym Monday night for BU's game against ART U. This is the third repeat opponent of this year for Biola. Both of the other finished up season series (PLNU, NDNU) were series sweeps. If that trend continues, the odds are in Biola's favor after having won convincingly in the opener. The Eagles won that first matchup thanks to a great first half. BU began the game on an eight-minute hot stretch to open a 19-2 lead before ultimately entering halftime with a 34-18 advantage. HNU scored more points in the second half, but it was not enough for the Hawks to overcome their early woes. Look for BU to have the pedal to the metal again early in this one, especially if they take care of business in the first two games of the week and have a chance to end their road trip 4-0 with a win in this one. BU never trailed the first time these two sides met and the Eagles won the rebounding battle in a big way, 51-26. It was not all good things though, as Biola struggled both at the free throw line (19-31/61%) and behind the arc (2-8/25%) while also turning the ball over 21 times, making the game much closer than it probably should have been. Four players reached double-digits for Biola that night, with Levi Auble and Michael Bagatourian leading the way with 14 points each. More than half of the Eagles' points came from the painted area, and that was on a night when Alex Talma was not as productive as normal. If BU can get him going this week - watch out. Alonzo Taylor is the player to watch for the home team. He led the Hawks in scoring in 2017-18 and is doing it again this year (13.3). However, he has only started five of their 13 games, with just one start since Thanksgiving.

YEAR 39: Dr. Dave Holmquist just keeps humming along. He's in his 39th season coaching his alma mater and is holding steady in fifth place in the all-time wins list among four-year college men's basketball coaches. Holmquist's 965 wins are third-most among active college coaches, only falling behind Mike Krzyzewski of Duke (1,100) and Herb Magee of NCAA Division II Jefferson University (1,074). Holmquist has averaged 22.8 wins-per-season, including his three years at Fresno Pacific when he first got started in the mid-1970s.

MR. 1,000: Trevor Treinen eclipsed 1,000 career points in his last game last season. The four-year senior comes into this week up to 1,178 points after a productive preseason and strong start to conference play. He's averaged 334 points-per-season over his last three years, with a career-best 442 points last year. If he can get around 375 this season, he could move into the top-10 all-time among Biola Men's Basketball players. He's currently on pace for around 378 points this season. The current No. 10 is Bryan Weakley (1998-02) at 1,322. The highest spot he could likely reach would be seventh. He'd need 417 points to pass Roger Poppen (1960-63) for that spot. Treinen is also near the top of the Biola record books in three-pointers made. He comes into this season with 148 through his first three seasons, eighth all-time. He's within 50 of passing Marcus White, Dakari Archer, Nate Rakestraw, Pierre Zook and Doug Newby to move into third all-time behind Weakley (236) and Danny Campbell (203). He had a good week from beyond the arc last week, almost doubling his season total in made three-pointers with six makes. The senior has scored in double-digits in all but two games this season.

NEXT WEEK: at Azusa Pacific (9-6, 6-2 PacWest) - Saturday Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. (Wear red or BEAT AZUSA shirt)
