LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Basketball heads to the islands this week for a three-game trip to Hawaii Hilo, Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific. The Eagles have a wraparound week of games Thursday, Saturday and Monday.

ABOUT LAST WEEK: Biola had its second-straight one-game week last week. The Eagles played host to Fresno Pacific on Saturday night and took a four-point victory over the Sunbirds, 73-69. Trevor Treinen had 19 first-half points and 25 overall to lead all scorers and help BU get back to even in PacWest play. FPU outscored Biola by four in the second-half, but the Eagles were able to hang on to the win thanks to a 12-5 run late in the first half allowing them a solid eight-point halftime lead. The 25-point effort was Treinen's third 20+ point game in his last five times out.

Biola and the Silverswords will do battle two times over the next three weeks. This first matchup of the season comes on the heels of Chaminade's worst loss of the season, a 80-64 home defeat at the hands of the surging Azusa Pacific Cougars. The Silverswords were held to just 27 points in the first half and shot just 40 percent in the game as they suffered their fourth PacWest loss (8-4). It's been an up-and-down PacWest season so far for Chaminade after a perfect 6-0 preseason. Three of their four losses have been by four points or fewer, but the last time out was a bit of an eye-opener. Biola and Chaminade met just once last season, coming in the second-to-last game of the year. The Silverswords took care of business with a 71-59 win inside of Chase Gym that helped punch their ticket to the PacWest tournament. Erik Schieve will be the player to watch for the 'Swords. He was one of their leading scorers last year against Biola, going for 15 points and shooting about 70 percent from the field. The senior is second on this year's team, averaging 16.2 points-per-game. He is one of three Silverswords players in the top-8 of the PacWest in scoring. Chaminade is the top scoring team in the conference, averaging 80.3 points-per-game in conference play. They've allowed opponents more points since conference play began, averaging 67.3 ppg against in non-conference games, but 73.4 ppg against in conference contests. That number is the fourth-highest in the league. This is the seventh all-time meeting between these two. The previous six meetings have been split 3-3.

It's been a tough road for Hawaii Pacific this season after a .500 year in 2017-18. The Sharks have lost seven of their last eight contests heading into this week. Their only win was a blowout over the winless Notre Dame de Namur Argos. Senior Jonathan Janssen has been the standout player for the Sharks so far this season. He leads HPU in both scoring (12.5) and rebounding (6.3) and has two double-doubles in conference play. Hawaii Pacific, behind 21ppg scorer Niksha Federico, won both head-to-head matchups against Biola in 2017-18. The second meeting came down to the last possession before HPU took the 64-62 win inside of Chase Gym. Biola had been 1-0 all-time against the Sharks, but now comes into this season with a 1-2 all-time series mark. It's about a six-point swing between these two teams based off their conference results so far. Biola averages 3.5 more points-per-game than HPU and has allowed its opponents about three fewer points-per-game this season. Trevor Treinen had 11 points and 21 points in the two games against HPU last season, the most by any Eagle over the two games. However, his 11 points in the loss at HPU came on a 3-of-13 shooting performance. He'll have his focus on better shot selection this week.

Biola and Hawaii Hilo play Feb. 4 and Feb. 19, so they will get real familiar with one another over the next few weeks. Hawaii Hilo won big in the teams' only meeting of last season, taking an 80-55 victory on the big island. Levi Auble was Biola's leading scorer in that game, pouring in 15 points. Biola was hampered by a poor shooting night that evening, ending the game with a 29.3 field goal percentage and a 3-of-25 mark from three-point range. Hilo hit 12 three-pointers in that game with their two leading scorers combining for eight of those makes. Those two players are not on this year's Vulcans team. Hawaii Hilo comes into the week losing three of its last four contests. UHH has APU three days before Biola, too, making it a tough week for the Vulcans. APU has won four straight and eight of their last 10. Hilo is the worst defense in the conference to this point of the season, allowing opponents 76.5 points-per-game on average. For the season, they've got a -0.8 scoring margin. Biola is at +2.2 in scoring margin for the year. Outside of that, the two teams match up very closely in most stat categories and records. Biola is 0-1 against UHH in the PacWest era and 1-1 all-time.

HAWAII HILO TICKETING INFORMATION

YEAR 39: Dr. Dave Holmquist just keeps humming along. He's in his 39th season coaching his alma mater and is holding steady in fifth place in the all-time wins list among four-year college men's basketball coaches. Holmquist's 968 wins are third-most among active college coaches, only falling behind Mike Krzyzewski of Duke (1,100) and Herb Magee of NCAA Division II Jefferson University (1,074). Holmquist has averaged 22.8 wins-per-season, including his three years at Fresno Pacific when he first got started in the mid-1970s. This year he's on pace to help the Eagles get 16 (16-14) and end with 974.

MR. 1,300?: Trevor Treinen eclipsed 1,000 career points in his last game last season. The four-year senior comes into this week up to 1,269 points after a productive preseason and strong first half of conference play. He's averaged 334 points-per-season over his last three years, with a career-best 442 points last year. If he can get around 375 this season, he could move into the top-10 all-time among Biola Men's Basketball players. He's currently on pace for around 414 points this season. The current No. 10 is Bryan Weakley (1998-02) at 1,322. The highest spot he could likely reach would be seventh. He'd need 417 points to pass Roger Poppen (1960-63) for that spot. The senior is on a bit of a hot streak as of late, upping his season ppg by a full two points with his efforts over the last seven games. That includes his first two 20-point performances of the season during this last road trip. Treinen is also near the top of the Biola record books in three-pointers made. He comes into this season with 148 through his first three seasons, eighth all-time. He's within 50 of passing Marcus White, Dakari Archer, Nate Rakestraw, Pierre Zook and Doug Newby to move into third all-time behind Weakley (236) and Danny Campbell (203).
