LA MIRADA, Cailf. --- The PacWest Conference Office named freshman Sami Penor its Women's Golfer of the Week on Thursday after the Henderson, Nevada native made a run for the Western New Mexico Fall Invitational Title.

This is the first weekly honor for Penor and for the Biola Women's Golf team in the Eagles' PacWest era.

Penor was one of four women atop the leaderboard after shooting a 71 (-1) in her first play through at the Golf Club of Estrella. She briefly took sole possession of first place on Tuesday after sinking birdies on four and five and finished the two-round tournament with a score of 146 (+3). Penor recorded seven birdies in 36 holes and has already tied Biola's program record for two-round individual scored with that 146 in her first collegiate tournament.

Teammate Tori Roeske also shot a 146 in 2016 at the Firestorm Fall Invite while sophomore Jules Liobl carded a 147 at the Western New Mexico Fall Invitational a year ago.

After coming in eighth out the 19-team field at the WNMU Invitational, Head Coach Jane Carr's group will look to carry their momentum into the NCCAA West Regional on Monday October 1. Biola will travel to the Indian Springs Golf Course in Indio, California to try earn an automatic bid into the NCCAA National Championships that are played in late October.
