LA MIRADA, Calif. --- After playing 110 minutes and scoring the equalizing goal in Biola's 1-1 tie with No. 18 Fort Hays State on Saturday, senior Alejandro Pelayo was named PacWest Defender of the Week on Monday by the conference office.

The award is the first conference honor for Pelayo and the second in as many weeks for Biola Men's Soccer after midfielder Oscar Rubalcava was named Freshman of the Week on Sept. 10.

The forward-turned-centerback provided Biola's tying goal against the No. 18 Tigers just 86 seconds after Fort Hays State took a 1-0 lead in the 78th minute. It was Pelayo's first goal of the season and a fitter stamp on the match for the senior defender.

Pelayo worked all match to halt the waves of attackers from Fort Hays State and prevent them from getting clean looks at frame, helping limit Fort Hays State to just three shots-on-goal.

The defender and the Eagles have their final two non-conference matches this week, squaring off with Point Loma at home on Friday before driving to Irvine to take on Concordia on Saturday.
