September 11, 2018

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Cross Country picked right back up where it left off during its first weekend of 2018. The Eagles had a pair of podium team finishes and as a result the student-athletes claimed four weekly awards.

Gabe Plendcio and Mackenna Mason led their teams and both were recognized by the National Christian College Athletic Association as national cross country runners of the week. This is a repeat win for both runners, who were each honored by the NCCAA during the 2017 season.

Plendcio paced the men with a 25:29.45 to lead the Eagles to a first-place team finish in the Biola invitational. His efforts were also recognized by the PacWest Conference, where he earned conference runner of the week.

Mason ran her 5k in 18:33.01 to finish third individually and also lead Biola to a third-place finish.

Biola also had great performances from some freshmen at this week's Biola Invitational, with Clara Haynes bringing home PacWest Conference Freshman of the Week with her 18:52.93 and seventh-place finish. She was the second Eagle to cross the line at Ted Craig Regional Park.

The Eagles are off this week but resume competition up north next weekend at the San Francisco State Invitational at Golden Gate Park.
