Rubalcava This Week’s Top Frosh

Oscar Rubalcava’s game-winner this past Saturday earns him PacWest Freshman of the Week honors.

September 10, 2018

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The PacWest conference office named Oscar Rubalcava its Freshman of the Week on Monday after the Clovis, California native scored the game-winning goal in Biola's 1-0 victory over Cal State San Bernardino.

This is the first weekly honor for Rubalcava and the first for Biola Men's Soccer in the 2018 season.

The midfielder scored the first goal of his collegiate career by executing an excellent give-and-go with fellow freshman Jonathan Serrano in the 27th minute of Biola's match with the Coyote. After making a quick touch at the left corner of the 18-yard box and getting the ball back, Rubalcava pushed it past the keeper on the run with the outside of his right foot to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead they would not relinquish.

Rubalcava's goal helped Biola snap an eight-match losing streak to the Coyotes and defeat CSUSB for the first time since 1984.

The Eagles will look to continue their winning ways with two more matches at home this week. They'll host Northwest Nazarene at Al Barbour Field on Thursday at 7 p.m. and then turn around to play No. 15 Fort Hays State (KS) on Saturday at 4 p.m.
