SAN JOSE, Calif. --- Biola Swim & Dive became another swimmer stronger with the commitment of Valley Christian High School standout, Clayton Owens.

Owens, a four-year varsity swimmer and four-year CCS qualifier, chose Biola because he "felt right at home with the team and coaching staff."

During his time at VCHS, Owens helped his team win West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) titles and qualify for CCS Championship meets and State Championship meets. He swam backstroke and freestyle events for the Warriors

"My expectations as a student-athlete is to continue with a rigorous and challenging schedule, allowing me to enhance my current disciplinary abilities of balancing school, competitive swimming, faith and my extracurricular activities," said Owens. "I believe I would thrive at Biola that provides an academic environment to learn leadership skills, professional development, the trust in God, as well as allowing me to swim competitively representing my school alongside my teammates with pride."

In addition to swimming at VCHS, Owens also played Water Polo, spent three years learning Mandarin as a foreign language and continued as a part of the Santa Clara swim club.

Owens comes into Biola with a personal-best 100-backstroke time of :54.08, which puts him just over two seconds back from Eddie Campana's school record. A collegiate strength & conditioning program, coupled with the training he'd receive from Head Coach Ryan Kauth could make that an attainable goal for the future Eagle.

"I look forward to competing in and out of the pool as an Eagle," said Owens. "Thank you to my high school teachers and counselors, coaches and family for all the help and support."

When he begins at Biola this fall Owens plans to major in business finance with hopes of pursuing a career in law after his undergraduate studies wrap up.

He will be in the pool and ready to compete for BU when the season starts up this October.
