All-Conference Scorer Heads West

Leo Thompson transfers to Biola and the men’s soccer program after earning all-conference honors in the NAIA.

BIRMINGHAM, England --- Head Coach Todd Elkins' team added some firepower in advance of its second season of NCAA DII competition with the signing of transfer-scorer Leo Thompson.

Thompson will join the Eagles for this upcoming fall after scoring 12 goals and earning first team all-conference honors for Thomas University in the NAIA last year. Thompson also collected nine assists for the Night Hawks, making him the only player on the Eagles 2018 roster who is coming off a season where he collected 10 or more points.

Thompson got off to a torrid start in 2017, scoring at least one goal in each of his first five matches and scored three times in a 12-minute span on Oct. 28, 2017 to register a hat trick in a 3-1 win over Southeastern. Thompson scored goals in exactly half of the Night Hawks wins last season and he's looking to increase his team's success as he makes to the move to Southern California.

"Biola offers me great opportunities to grow as a soccer player, and more importantly as a person," said Thompson. "And I feel the environment on campus will allow me to thrive in all aspects of my life. I would like to thank everyone at Biola who has helped me make the move easy and I look forward to working with everyone in the future to make 2018 a successful season."

Thompson is originally from Birmingham England and was a former U18 England school boys national selection. He's also a big fan of the beautiful game, supporting his local Premier League side, West Bromwich Albion, and the Three Lions as England plays in Russia for this summer's World Cup.

When he arrives at Biola, Thompson will major in international business and hopes to own an international fitness clothing brand in addition to playing soccer professionally. He and his teammates will begin the 2018 season in August.
