Manalo Makes The Cut

Marcel Manalo earns Biola Golf's first All-PacWest honors.

May 03, 2018

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The PacWest Conference released its annual all-conference honors for men and women's Golf on Thursday and Marcel Manalo made history to be the first Biola golfer to ever earn All-PacWest recognition. The freshman had a fantastic season, culminating with a top-15 finish at last week's PacWest Conference Golf Championships.

She ended her year with an average round of 79.52 in a team-high 23 tournament rounds played. She was one of three Biola golfers to appear in every competitive round in 2017-18. Her scoring average was the second-best on the team (Jules Loibl - 78.43) and is a top-300 score in all of the NCAA Division II.

Manalo finished inside of the top-15 in six of her 10 tournaments during her freshman season. She was top-10 in three of those and top-5 once (third in NCCAA West Region Championship). Twelve of Manalo's 23 rounds came in at under 80 and she was the fourth-best freshman to finish at the PacWest Championships, signaling a bright future ahead.

"Marcel is a freshman that has come out strong this year," said Head Coach Jane Carr. "I call her one of those 'sneaky good' players. She has a calm and unassuming demeanor on the course. I really never know how she is playing because she carries herself like a seasoned senior."

Thankfully for Biola, Manalo is not a senior, she's got three more years left to represent the Eagles on the course. Biola has one year left as provisional NCAA Division II members and dual-members in the NCCAA. Manalo and the Eagles will be back on the course in September vying for another strong national finish in the NCCAA. Manalo helped the team to a national runner-up finish this year.
