WHEATON, Ill. --- JD Gunn has been a fixture in Wheaton Academy athletics for the past few years as a two-sport athlete on the Warriors soccer and basketball teams. He's helped the Warriors to a state semifinal in soccer and has earned all-area honors as a forward on the hardwood. But Gunn will put on his gloves and lace up his boots again when he arrives at Biola University in the fall to help the Eagles' men's soccer team fill the vacancy left by graduating keeper Igor Puglia.

Gunn won a combined total of 44 games during his senior soccer and basketball seasons. The Warriors basketball team went 20-7 and rode a seven-game winning streak to the second round of sectional playoffs. The six-foot-five Gunn played guard and forward at Wheaton Academy and was made an honorable mention on the all-area team this past March.

But back in 2017 Gunn led the Warriors boys' soccer team to a third-place finish at the 2A state playoffs and posted 13 shutouts in a 24-5 season. Wheaton Academy won 16-straight matches from Sept. 18 to Oct. 31 last season and only allowed five goals during that stretch. As a goalkeeper, Gunn has made an all-state team, three all-conference teams and two all-section teams.

At Biola, Gunn plans to major in English while getting his teaching credential and hopes his time as an Eagle will help him take steps toward his professional soccer and coaching aspirations. He certainly found Biola to be a supportive and friendly environment as he was considering the university.

"I chose Biola because there is no other community like it in the college setting," said Gunn. "The people are genuine and I know I will be encouraged in my journey."
