LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola University Softball earned two Google Cloud Academic All-District honors on Thursday, with senior business administration major Terri Van Dagens and junior sociology major Hailey Boyett both recognized by CoSIDA.

Boyett and Van Dagens join Keaton Kerr as the only Biola student-athletes to earn this honor in the NCAA Division II era. Kerr went on to also earn Google Cloud Academic All-America second team honors.

The Academic All-District teams recognize the region's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Biola was one of two teams in the region to have multiple student-athletes earn a spot on the 11-member all-district team. It was the only PacWest Conference team with multiple winners.

Van Dagens joined a pitcher from Concordia University Portland as the only pitchers to be recognized from NCAA Division II District 8 (west region). Boyett earned her spot on the team as the only designated player recognized.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-District and Academic All-America recognition student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or above.

Award winners are selected by a voting process that takes into account the academic standing of the student-athlete, as well as their performance on the field of play.

Van Dagens was the Eagles' most important pitcher in 2018. Van Dagens set new career-bests in wins (12), ERA (1.74), strikeouts (107) and innings pitched (132.2). She finished top-10 in the PacWest Conference in ERA, opposing batting average (.208), innings, strikeouts and wins.

Her signature outing was a 10-inning, two-hit shutout of then-conference leading CBU. She held the Lancers to zero hits over 8.2 of those innings to lead Biola to the upset win. The senior pitched eight complete games, including two shutouts and six other combined shutouts.

Boyett had the best year of her career in 2018. Despite battling injuries early in the year, Boyett racked up career-bests in games (43), average (.341), runs (15), hits (43), doubles (4), triples (1), HR (6), RBI (31), slugging (.532), BB (11), OBP (.403) and fielding percentage (1.000).

She played 37 of her 43 appearances at DP and a handful of her early appearances at first base. Boyett's six homeruns was the second-most on the team and is just outside of the top-10 in the PacWest Conference. She finished the season second on the team in batting average, second in RBI and fourth in total bases. Her nine multiple-RBI games is also the second-best on the team.

Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, which will be announced in June by CoSIDA.
