LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. --- The average round of the entire field may have gone up on day two of competition at the 2017-18 PacWest Conference Women's Golf Championships, but Biola's scores went down.

Head Coach Jane Carr's team shaved 15 strokes off of its first round total of 325 to shoot a 310 during the second 18-hole stint. The Eagles held steady in fifth place of the overall leaderboard, six strokes behind Dixie State, and 18 strokes ahead of Hawaii Pacific. For reference, Biola and HPU sat tied for fifth after both shooting day one scores of 325.

Alexis Gopfert had the standout effort for Biola during Tuesday's second round. The sophomore shot her best round of the season, leading Biola with a four-over 76. The 76, combined with Monday's tally of 81, has Gopfert in strong standing heading into the final day sitting tied for 13th.

Her best stretch of play came on the back nine, where she only shot worse than par on one hole (bogey on 17) and compiled three birdies, which was the second most on the team on Tuesday. Her three birdies came within a stretch of five holes. It was the end of a nine-hole stretch (8-16) that featured six pars and three birds. Gopfert's tally of two-under on the back nine today was the best nine of the tournament so far for BU.

Tori Roeske, Marcel Manalo and Jules Loibl all shot a 78 during the second round. Manalo and Loibl both had really strong front nines and struggled a bit on the back, while Roeske started out slower but caught up over the nine holes at the end.

Loibl was at even par at the turn as she had one birdie, one bogey and seven pars on the front. She managed a birdie on the back nine too, but carded more bogeys to shoot six-over and come to her grand total of 78.

Manalo and Roeske both had one birdie a piece. Interestingly, with their combined seven birdies, none of Biola's top four golfers managed to birdie the same hole as another golfer.

Sophia Karnazes birdied the fifth hole, which is also the one Manlo got her birdie on, but the odds of this happening were definitely more likely since the freshman shot a team-best four birdies during this second day of competition. She's up to six bidies on the tournament, which is fourth-best overall in the 60-golfer field.

Unfortunately, Karnazes also had four holes where she recorded a score higher than a bogey. This caused her final score to inflate just a little as she shot an 84. She was the only Eagle to shoot higher than her round one score (82). Her biggest spot of trouble was a five-over on the par-4 hole 12. She shot even-par on that hole on day one, so you should expect her to bounce back tomorrow.

At the end of two rounds Biola has three golfers in the top-20: Gopfert (13), Roeke (15) and Manalo (20). They need to make up six strokes on Dixie State to move into fourth or 12 strokes on Holy Names to move into third. They shot five strokes better than HNU on Tuesday and one stroke better than the Trailblazers.
