LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Micah Beyer was selected as PacWest Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after he led the Eagles to a 1-0 shutout victory over Point Loma Nazarene University Thursday.
Beyer became the conference leader in strikeouts after fanning 11 Sea Lions in eight innings. He allowed only two free passes, had 23 first-pitch strikes and induced 23 swings that came up empty for Sea Lions hitters.
Additionally, he drew a 0-for-3 day from Sea Lions' power hitter Tyler Flores, who came into the game with .398 batting average and 14 homeruns. He prevented Flores from hitting the ball out of the infield in any at-bat.
After the Eagles pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth and closed things out in the ninth, Beyer improved to 5-0 on the year. He now has back-to-back starts of 10 strikeouts or more and has gone at least seven innings in six-straight starts.
He and Eagles will be on the road for their next PacWest series, traveling to Riverside for a four-game series with California Baptist. The first matchup will be on Thursday and is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start.
