Ending On A High Note

Biola Women’s Tennis ends its season with a dominating sweep of Ottawa (Ariz.).

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The Biola Eagles ended their season with smiles and team-wide success on Friday. Led by Madison Swaney's straight-set at No. 1 singles, Head Coach David Goodman's team came up with a wire-to-wire victory over Ottawa (Ariz.), 9-0.

Biola charged ahead to a 4-0 lead with quick wins at singles flights three through six. Lily Waterhouse finished first with a 6-1, 6-1 victory and was followed closely Lauren Lee, who raced past her opponent, 6-0, 6-2.

Waterhouse ends the year with four victories in singles competition while Lauren Lee finished as the team leader in both singles and doubles, with five wins in singles and seven in doubles.

The Eagles then finished off singles play and the win with three encouraging results at the one, two and six spots. Sarah Morgan won her second match of the year to finish with a record of 2-2 in singles. She was followed by victories from Tinisee Kandakai, who took her singles fixture for the first time since March 6, and freshman Madison Swaney, who won the No. 1 singles match for the first time in her collegiate career.

Kandakai and Swaney both dug their heels in to end the year on a upswing. Swaney rallied to win the first set of her match 7-5 but put her foot down in the second with a 6-1 score. Kandakai finished her three-set match a few minutes before Swaney and came up with the same score in the decisive set, 6-0, 1-6, 6-1.

The Eagles wrapped up the year with three doubles matches that were never in doubt. The team of Morgan and Swaney finished first with an 8-1 win, followed by Waterhouse and L. Lee at 8-4 and Kandakai and Allison Torres at 8-5.

Biola ends the year at 3-14 but got victories in two of its final three matches at home. The roster made up entirely of underclassman represented the Eagles well in their first season as an NCAA Division II program with multiple individual successes and shows great potential for the season ahead.
