Lee, Waterhouse Battle For Wins

Lauren Lee and Lily Waterhouse fight for three-set wins in singles against Holy Names.

March 08, 2018

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Even though Thursday's action still left Biola looking for its first PacWest win, the Eagles still had a number of individual successes against Holy Names.

When play opened with doubles, The team of Tinisee Kandakai and Allison Torres won for the third time in four conference matches with an 8-4 win in the No. 3 pairings. Then Lauren Lee and Lily Waterhouse ended the day on good notes with strong third-set wins to win their second singles matchups of the year.

By the time Lee and Waterhouse scored the second and third points for Biola, Holy Names had already built a 4-1 lead with wins at No. 3 and No. 5 singles. But Lee kept the Eagles' hopes alive and completely turned her match around by overcoming a 6-0 first set loss.

Lee sped through the next two sets with 6-2 and 6-1 scores to register her match as the third of six to be completed in singles play and make the overall team score 4-2 in favor of the Hawks.

Holy Names eventually won the match 6-3, but not before Lily Waterhouse squeezed out a gritty 7-5 victory in the third set after dropping the second 6-3. Waterhouse started the final set down 1-0 and was even caught in a 5-5 tie before she won the final two games of the match.

The Eagles will play four non-conference opponents before returning to PacWest play on Mar. 26. They'll play their first opponent in Vassar College at the Biola Tennis Center on Tuesday Mar. 13 at 2:00 p.m..
