Biola Women's Golf drops 22 strokes from round one to finish third.

March 31, 2018

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. --- Biola Women's Golf dropped 22 strokes from its round one score by shooting a 310 on Saturday to move up one spot and finish third at the UC Santa Cruz Invitational.

Jules Loibl shot an even-par 72 to lead all scorers for the Eagles on the second day. She shaved 10 strokes off of yesterday's round in order to help BU to its large team improvement.

Tori Roeske also performed at the top of her game on Saturday with a round two tally of 74. That marked a seven stroke improvement for the sophomore.

Marcel Manalo, who was Friday's leading scorer for BU, shot well enough to get three Eagles inside of the tournament's top-10. Her second round of 81 brought her to a tournament total of 159 (+15). She tied for 10th overall, while Loibl finished fifth and Roeske sixth.

George Fox University held on to their round one lead by shooting a 307 in round two and won the tournament. Yesterday's individual leader shot six strokes more than she did a day ago (78), but managed to win the tournament by two strokes with a final tally of 150 (+6).

Sophia Karnazes and Lauren Van Horn each shot in the low-80s, improving by eight strokes a piece from their Friday tallies. It was the final regular season round for the career of senior Lauren Van Horn. Van Horn has been a great leader for the program over the past few years and will definitely be missed.

Rachel Reynolds (82-83) and Mary Karnazes (90-78) both shot well enough, playing as individuals, to have five Biolans place in the top-25 in the 60-golfer field.

Up next for the Eagles is the final tournament, and most important tournament, of the year, the PacWest Conference Championships. That will be played at The Wigwam Golf Club in Arizona at the end of April.
