Game Recap: Softball |

Forget About It

Biola suffers a 9-1 loss in its opener at No. 5 Dixie State.

ST. GEORGE, Utah. --- Dixie State Softball came out and proved why they've earned the number five ranking in all of NCAA Division II with a 9-1 run-rule win over Biola in game one of Saturday's road doubleheader.

The Trailblazers hit early and often no matter what the Eagles were throwing at them, ending the game with nine hits, including four extra-base hits and two homeruns.

Biola loaded the base in the first inning and got two runners on in the second inning, but the Dixie State starter had a knack for inducing popups at just the right time to work her way out of innings.

The Eagles scratched out their only run of the game in the top of the fourth as a Missy Poti leadoff double was cashed in on a throwing error on a Kaile Chavez sacrifice bunt.

Terri Van Dagens ended up with a loss, but she had her changeup working for much of the game to end up setting a new season-high with six strikeouts against the imposing Trailblazer lineup.

Offensively, Areana Ramos was seeing the ball well, accounting for half of Biola's hits with two line drive singles.

Dixie State improves to 26-3 (12-3 PacWest), while Biola drops to 28-9 (12-6 PacWest).

Biola will forget about this one quickly and hope to fair better in game two with Paige Austin (12-2) now lined up to get the start. That will be scheduled for a 12:10 p.m. PT start.
