LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The Biola Eagles turned in an excellent rebound victory after it lost in spite of great effort to University of Hawai'i at Hilo on Monday. Head Coach David Goodman's team sustained their effort and finally punched through on Wednesday for a 7-2 victory over NCAA Division III Whitworth University that included a sweep in doubles play.

Biola started the competition with its first sweep of the season to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The No. 1 doubles duo of Esther Lee and Lauren Lee avenged their defeat via tiebreaker on Monday with an 8-3 score in victory over Marissa Kirk and Avery Liesing. The win improved the Lees' record to 4-2 as a team and gave Lauren Lee her team-leading six win of the season in a doubles flight.

In the meantime, the team of Sarah Morgan and Lily Waterhouse made quick work of their fixture and earned Biola's first points of the day when they got past their opponents, 8-2. Then Tinisee Kandakai found success with yet another doubles' partner as she and Madison Swaney continued the trend of commanding wins with an 8-3 score.

Swaney is the third partner that Kandakai has won a match with this season. She earned an 8-4 win with Waterhouse in the first match of the year and has won two other times with Allison Torres, who had a straight-set 7-5, 6-1 victory during singles play on Wednesday for her second win of the year in singles.

The Eagles knocked Whitworth out of the match with four straight-set victories in singles play to reach their final total of seven points. E. Lee and Waterhouse led the charge to the win-clinching fifth point and a 5-0 lead by nearly bagel-ing their opponents at the No. 1 and No. 6 flights. Then Lauren Lee finished the third singles match shortly thereafter with a 6-1, 6-1 score over Katie Lacayo.

Despite falling in tiebreakers, Swaney and Kandakai still put together good building blocks for winning tennis with strong opening set wins. Kandakai held her counterpart at love in the first set while Swaney held her opponent to two games or fewer in a set for the second-straight contest.

The Eagles will soak in their second win of the year and build on it during the nine days they have until their next match. On Thursday Apr. 5 Biola will welcome Concordia University Irvine to the Biola Tennis Center with play scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
