Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

A Clean Sweep

Biola earns its first 9-0 victory of the season on Tuesday.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Tennis earned its most decisive victory of the season on Tuesday afternoon at the Biola Tennis Center as the Eagles blanked Pacific Lutheran in a dominant 9-0 victory.

"We have been talking a lot as a group about playing the whole home match focused, from the first point to the last," said Head Coach David Goodman. "I don't think that we achieved that today, but we made some strides in the right direction in singles."

The Eagles were as dominant as it could get in singles play, winning all six matchups in consecutive sets. Derek James, Lucas Lee and Logan Blair were all especially dominant, allowing fewer than two games to their opponents.

James and Lee both earned 6-1; 6-0 victories to end their days quickly. That pair also played number one doubles together and was just as excellent in that match, setting down their opponents, 8-3. Biola won all three doubles matchups, getting an 8-4 win at number two and 8-6 win at the third spot.

Quentin Lau and Philip Westwood got back to their winning ways in the number two doubles matchup. They won their seventh doubles match of the season as a pairing. They are now five doubles wins off the Biola single-season record.

Westwood was the one who had to battle through the most in singles play. He got the call at No. 1 singles for the ninth consecutive outing. He won his first set by two games (6-4) before needing to go a little extra in the second set in order to get the victory (7-5) and end the match at 9-0.

"I thought that Phil played a great match," said Goodman. "It was some of the best tennis I've seen him play this season and it is important for us as a group that he continue to play strong at the number one position."

Biola's victory improves their overall record to 4-10, while the Lutes fall to 5-7 after Tuesday's result. The Eagles get a day off on Wednesday before continuing their busy week with a home match vs. Merrimack College on Thursday afternoon.
