Moving On Up

Biola Women's Golf climbs up the leaderboard on day two.

February 06, 2018

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- Positive movement was the theme of the final day of the Point Loma REACH Tournament as Head Coach Jane Carr's team moved up one spot and cut 11 strokes from its score at Riverwalk Golf Course.

When all 36 holes were in the books Biola found itself securely in sixth place in the 15-team field, which is an improvement from yesterday's seventh-place mark. The team dropped from a 334 down to a 323 to close out the tournament feeling confident.

For the second day in a row Marcel Manalo was the Eagles' low scorer. She matched her round one 79 to finish the competition tied for 15th overall. Tori Roeske also shot a 79 on day two, which as a nice bounceback from her round of 87 yesterday. She finished with a 166 for the tournament, which was just one stroke behind teammate Jules Loibl's 165.

Loibl shot an 81 on Monday and 84 on Tuesday for a consistent tournament. She had 13 pars on day one and just six on day two. However, she did manage to sneak in two birdies on Tuesday to help her score come down just a bit.

Rounding out the Eagles' scoring players was Sophia Karnazes (87 - 81 | 168) and Rachel Reynolds (87 - 85 | 172). Lauren Van Horn and Alexis Gopfert played the tournament unattached as individuals and Van Horn had a whale of a round on Tuesday, carding an 80 which ties her career-best.

The senior managed 10 pars, including five in a row between holes two through six.

The Eagles finished the tournament with an overall score of 657 to finish 12 spots back of the top-5. CSU San Marcos was the tournament-winning team with a final tally of 600 even. They shot a round one 298 and round two 302.

Biola will continue its spring season at the end of the month at the California Baptist Women's Invitational, hosted at Goose Greek Golf Club. The spring all builds towards the team's first PacWest Championship tournament at the end of April.
