SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- The spring golf season got back underway on Monday as Head Coach Jane Carr's team played 18 holes at Riverwalk Golf Course to begin the Point Loma REACH tournament.

The Eagles combined to shoot a 334 to sit in seventh place in the 15-team field through the first half of the competition. The 334 puts them within seven strokes of fifth-place, but a good distance away from the top-4 teams. CSU San Marcos leads the field after the first day with a 298.

Marcel Manalo was the Eagles' low scorer through the first round. She carded a 79 with eight pars and one birdie helping her to her final score. She had three pars in a row on holes seven, eight and nine.

Jules Loibl was just behind Manalo with an 81. Loibl had what it took to put together a great round, shooting 13 pars, but some missteps on the other five holes set her back to a tie for 24th place.

The other three counting golfers for coach Carr all came in with round one scores of 87. This group included Tori Roeske, Sophia Karnazes and Rachel Reynolds. The positive sign about that is that it is a season-high score for all three ladies who seem poised to shed some strokes in round two.

The Eagles also had two golfers who were playing as individuals. Alexis Gopfert ended with an 83 and Lauren Van Horn an 85. It was Van Horn's first round of the 2017-18 season.

The field has an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start scheduled for Tuesday out in San Diego. We will post results and recap as soon as possible once they are official.
