Biola Holds Its Position

Men's Golf concludes its first tournament of the spring.

February 06, 2018

SAN MARCOS, Calif. --- The Biola Eagles finished their first tournament of the spring on Tuesday by holding their lead over Cal State Dominguez Hills and Westminster College to maintain their position on the team leaderboard.

Kyle McAbee improved on his second round score by nine shots and leapfrogged 11 places on the individual standings with a team best score of 74 on the day. Parker Buck finished just behind McAbee with a 77 and Austin Bishop concluded his tournament by shooting an 81.

"As a team on our last several holes we were way over par," said Head Coach Max Allen. "Today the exception was Kyle McAbee. He got off to a shaky start but came back with a few birdies for the team's low round."

Buck used his strong start on Tuesday to finish with the Eagles' best individual place at 23rd. The junior from Texas got an eagle and birdie over the first six holes to drop to -3 before carding a final total of 77.

McAbee's Tuesday score of 74 ended up being the best round of the tournament for Biola, followed closely by Buck's back-to-back 75's on Monday.

In a tournament that tested its mettle and patience, Biola ended with its second-best team score of the season at 939.

"Although our finish was unsatisfying we do know what we need to adjust before the next event," concluded Allen.

The Eagles will work to improve on more season-bests three weeks from now, when Biola enters the TMU Invite that begins in Santa Clarita on Feb. 26.
