LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Basketball is through its first NCAA Division II and PacWest Conference season. The Eagles finished right around where they were picked in the preseason poll, with high hopes of improvement in 2018-19.

The team did see its share of fantastic individual performances in 2017-18, which lead to two student-athletes being honored with PacWest yearly awards. Isaiah Jones took home one of just five conference special awards, winning PacWest Freshman of the Year honors. This award also earned him a place on the All-PacWest honorable mention list.

Trevor Treinen was the other Eagle to earn postseason honors, also placing on the honorable mention list. The junior out of Servite HS ended the season sixth in the conference in scoring with just under 16 points-per-game.

Jones becomes the second Biola student-athlete to earn a major conference award, joining Volleyball's Tess Van Grouw who was the conference's Libero of the Year.

He completed his fantastic freshman season with averages of 8.8 points-per-game and 7.1 rebounds-per-game, with some huge scoring and rebounding games throughout the year helping his cause.

His single-game high in points was a 24-point effort at La Sierra during the non-conference preseason segment of the schedule. He topped 20 points twice this season, also reaching that plateau in the season's final game when Biola hosted the conference champion Dixie State Trailblazers.

His single-game high in rebounds was 13, which also came in non-conference play against West Coast Baptist. He pulled down 10 or more boards seven times, with five of those occasions resulting in a double-double (a team-high).

Jones wasn't worked into the Eagles' starting lineup until Head Coach Dr. Dave Holmquist had some injury concerns he needed to address midway through the season. As a result, Jones averaged only 22 minutes-per-game this season, which makes you think more time on the floor could result in Jones developing into a player who's capable of averaging a double-double.

"Isaiah is a very good offensive player and rebounder," said Holmquist. "He certainly proved to be very good in those two areas with some big games this year. He proved he can compete well as a freshman against the other big guys in the conference."

The freshman made 59.2 percent of his field goals this year, which ranks second among all of the players in the conference. Only Kalidou Diouf of California Baptist (.662) shot better than Jones this year. Diouf was all-conference first team and under consideration for Player of the Year.

Treinen made an immediate impression in his first season in the conference. The junior's big coming out party was in early-January when he went on a tear and scored a season-high 32 points in Biola's game at Azusa Pacific.

He would score 20 or more points six other times in the season and only scored in the single-digits in four of his 28 games.

This allowed him to get himself all the way up to sixth in the PacWest in scoring by seasons end. All of the other 14 of the conference's top-15 scorers earned all-conference marks.

"Trevor is a fine offensive player with a very nice outside shot and pull-up game," said Holmquist. "He had a number of big scoring games. He had a good year this year and is capable of having a very good year next year if he gets physically stronger. He is already a very good player."

The Eagles' season is over now, but they will be back this November to begin their final season of the provisional membership period of the NCAA Division II transition.
