LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The Eagles hosted the Cougars for the 2018 Cornerstone Cup matchup on Monday during a cold and windy afternoon at the Biola Tennis Center.

Despite getting an early lead in several singles matches, Biola was unable to come up with an upset victory and lost 9-0.

Azusa Pacific created early momentum by building a 3-0 lead on strong performances in the doubles matches. Esther Lee and Lily Waterhouse fared the best out of the Eagles' teams but could not stall Diana Baumgartnere and Petra Ivankovic as they strung together a number of games in a row to win, 8-4.

A similar theme followed Biola's singles matchups, as the Eagles' early efforts to keep within a game of their opponents early on in the first sets could not be sustained. All six Eagles dropped the first set without forcing a tiebreak and Biola did not win its first set until No. 1 Esther Lee rattled off a 6-2 score after losing 4-6 in the first.

Lee kept battling through the tiebreaker and forced her opponent to play the longest singles matchup of the afternoon. But Baumgartnere came up with the big shots she needed to win 10-7 in the breaker and complete the sweep on Monday.

Biola falls to 0-4 in PacWest play while Azusa Pacific jumps to 5-1 overall, 3-0 PacWest. The Eagles return to the Biola Tennis Center on Thursday for a non-conference match with old GSAC peer Hope International at 2:00 p.m.
