Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Big Run Keys Chaminade Win

Biola starts strong, but loses its footing late in half one of a loss.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Basketball got off to one of its best defensive starts to the season on Saturday night, holding Chaminade scoreless for the first five minutes, 33 seconds, but eventually the Silverswords broke through and ended up stealing a 71-59 road victory.

The Eagles' lead stretched as large as 9-2, while neither team was making much of anything for the first five minutes. A 26-9 run by the Silverswords, coming over the next 11 minutes after scoring their first bucket, changed the game dramatically and took it from the steady Biola lead to instead a 10-point lead for CUH.

Ten points was a common interval between the two sides for most of the remainder of the night. The closest the Eagles would ever get once the Chaminade lead initially hit 10 points was within six. CUH even extended the game to a margin as large as 14 at multiple points in the second half.

Both teams shot the ball under 42 percent and neither team was successful beyond the arc, combining for just seven makes and both shooting less than 20 percent. Where Chaminade earned its win was in rebounding well (42-35) and taking advantage of their massive size advantage down low (46 points in the paint).

Biola hung in there until midway through the second half, but even the outstanding physical commitment of Alex Talma and Trevor Treinen who were working hard to draw fouls all night, could not help Biola play the role of spoiler by getting a win that would've made it hard for Chaminade to make the PacWest Tournament.

The Eagles' ended the game with 48 of their 59 points coming from the game's starters, led by 23 from Treinen and 10 from Talma. The big New Zealander also had 11 rebounds to lead all Eagles and end as the only player in the game with a double-double.

Biola falls to 11-16 (5-14 PacWest) with the loss, while Chaminade keeps their tournament hopes alive at 15-10 (10-8 PacWest). The Eagles have one final game on their schedule, which is planned for this Thursday vs. Dixie State Inside of Chase Gym.

The game will have a tip-off time of 7:30 p.m., with Blake Shannon, Jr.'s senior night ceremony coming directly before the opening tip.
