ORANGE, Calif. --- Biola's women's tennis team played a gritty and competitive match against Chapman university on Thursday. But two wins for the Panthers in the final two singles matches of the contest robbed the visiting Eagles of victory.

The Eagles started singles play down just 2-1 to Chapman after Lauren Lee and Madison Swaney took control of their No. 2 doubles match to win 8-5. It was the first win of the season for the team of Lee and Swaney and the second doubles' point of the season for Biola against four opponents.

Biola really turned things around at the start of singles played, when No. 1 Esther Lee and No. 4 Lauren Lee turned in straight-set victories over their opponents to put the Eagles ahead 3-2. After those matches, three of the next four pairing all dragged out to three sets.

Allison Torres turned her match around after dropping the first set 6-4, rattling off 6-2 and 6-3 scores to bring Biola within one point of victory with two pairings left. Following the 6-4, 6-4 win from the Panthers in the No. 6 match. Swaney gave everything she had in the final singles competition to give Biola's first win of the season. Swaney took the first set by a score of 6-3 and pushed her opponent to tie breakers in the next two sets.

But she and the Eagles just came out on the short end of the stick when Madison Ross won the third set 7-6.

Biola returns to PacWest play on Saturday when the Point Loma Sea Lions come to the Tennis Center. The women's competition is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
