BIOLA (6-2, 2-0 PacWest) at POINT LOMA (6-2, 2-0): Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. \\ Live Stats \\ Live Video ($8.95)
Everybody in San Diego is chattering about Head Coach Ryan Looney's Point Loma Sea Lions right now. The reason why is the Sea Lions' new 6-foot-8-inch shooting guard, Daulton Hommes. Hommes is considered to be a prime NBA prospect and spent the summer playing one-on-one with Boston Celtics star Gordon Hayward, helping him rehab from a major leg injury. The Lynden Christian graduate and Western Washington transfer has been lighting teams up during the preseason and first week of conference play, coming into this week's matchup averaging 21.8 points-per-game, with three 30+ point performances. The Sea Lions' two losses came to a pair of quality teams, the first being an 81-76 loss to Saint Martin's (where Hommes went for 37 points and was 16-of-17 on FT), and the second coming two weeks ago against No. 13 St. Cloud State. PLNU lost that game 74-65, but still saw massive games from both Hommes and returning all-conference player Ziggy Satterthwaite. Satterthwaite is second on the team, averaging 10.9 ppg, while returning big man Preston Beverly also averages double-digits (10.0). Biola holds a significant advantage in the all-time series against Point Loma, 60-33. However, the Sea Lions won both of last year's meetings by double-digits. Keep an eye of Michael Bagatourian in this matchup. The sophomore had a strong week last week and had 24 points against Point Loma when Biola hosted them last season. That was a massive improvement after he was held to zero points in the first meeting of the two teams last year.

POINT LOMA TICKETING INFORMATION

BIOLA (6-2, 2-0 PacWest) at CONCORDIA IRVINE (6-4, 2-0 PacWest): Saturday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. \\ Live Stats \\ Live Video
Things do not get much easier for BU in game two of this challenging second week of PacWest play. The Eagles get another team that made the PacWest tournament last year and is riding a hot streak with five consecutive victories. Concordia Irvine got off to a slow start, losing four of their first five games including blowing late leads in both games at the PacWest/CCAA Crossover tournament here at Biola. However, 18-year head coach Ken Ammann seems to have led his team into a groove at just the right time. CUI has rattled off 5-0 to be one of five conference teams perfect after one week of PacWest play. They've beat Sonoma State, San Francisco State, Antelope Valley, Dominican and Academy of Art to move above .500 heading into a week that includes Azusa Pacific (5-4, 2-0) and Biola. Biola holds a 30-23 all-time advantage over the Eagles of Irvine, but coach Holmquist's squad has lost five in a row against Ammann's, dating back to 2014. Smooth, athletic, strong-shooting guard Brian Chambers does most of the heavy lifting offensively for this Concordia team. Chambers is averaging 16.4 points-per-game to begin the year and is second on the team with 4.3 rebounds-per-game. Aside from Chambers, this team is filled with a bunch of good players, but no one who really stands out from the pack. Their leading rebounder averages just 4.5 per-game and after Chambers they've got seven players scoring between 5.9 points-per-game and 8.5 ppg. Biola's advantage in this contest could be its defensive effort. BU is leading the conference in scoring defense this season, allowing opponents just 63.8 points-per-game this year, including just 50 points-per-game in its two conference competitions this season. Concordia allows opponents 68.2 points-per-game on average and scores around 72.9, both middle of the pack numbers.

CONCORDIA IRVINE TICKETING INFORMATION

RANKED!: Biola Men's Basketball appeared on an officially recognized NCAA Division II poll for the first time this week. The Eagles are "receiving votes" in the latest D2SIDA West Region Men's Basketball Media Poll. The Eagles are the only team "receiving votes", making them the 11th-ranked team in the West Region. Biola is one of three PacWest institutions listed on the poll Chaminade (5-0) leads the way, ranked third in the region. Point Loma (6-2) is ranked sixth. The West Region is comprised of the PacWest, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) and the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). UC San Diego (CCAA) is leading the regional poll and is ranked No. 8 in the country.

ROAD COOKING: Biola will triple its total number of road games for the season with this week's two road contests. The Eagles have only forayed away from home one other time so far this year, and suddenly at the end of this week they'll have three under their belt. BU went 3-9 in road contests last season, including a 2-8 mark in conference games away from home. Last season, Biola was outscored 890-777 in games away from Chase Gym. That's an average of 74.2 points-per-game for opponents and 64.8 points-per-gaem for BU. Biola made fewer shots, turned the ball over more often and had fewer rebounds in road contests. This year, Biola's 0-1 on the road so far and looking to wipe clean that first road loss. It was easily the team's worst result of the season, seeing the Eagles lose by 25 points to the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens. The Eagles did not shoot bad, shooting 46 percent overall, but they turned the ball over 15 times and made less than 70 percent of their free throws, to miss out on key scoring chances.  Biola went 19-5 on the road in the two years before last year. They will look for a return to form on that this year.

TURNOVER TROUBLE: Biola went 2-0 last week, which is great. But, in the Eagles' win over Holy Names they turned the ball over 21 times, which is the most BU has had in a single game since it had 23 in a win over Arizona Christian in 2016-17. Biola's 116 turnovers is the fourth-most in the conference this year, with two of the teams in front of it having played two more games than BU. The Eagles have turned the ball over an average of 14.5 times per game this year, while forcing their opponents to turn the ball over just 12.4 times per game on average. That negative differential in the fourth-worst mark in the conference so far. Look for Biola to make a concerted effort to improve that area this week against two quality opponents.

REBOUNDING MACHINE: Alex Talma continues to put up gaudy numbers on the boards. He leads the conference with 9.9 rebounds-per-game and has helped BU position itself as the top rebounding team in the conference too at 41.8 rebounds-per-game. Talma has had double-digit rebounds his last two times out, including a 14pt/12rb double-double against NDNU last week. Last year he averaged 7.0 points-per-game and 6.5 rebounds-per-game against this week's two opponents. His scoring was hampered by him shooting just .333 from the floor in those four games. Look for both numbers to improve this year as he's more of the focal point of this team, both on the boards and in the offensive end. His best performance against either CUI or PLNU last year was the final meeting, Biola's 79-67 home loss to the Sea Lions. The New Zealand native went for 16 points and had seven boards. Numbers similar will go a long way this week.

YEAR 39: Dr. Dave Holmquist just keeps humming along. He's in his 39th season coaching his alma mater and is holding steady in fifth place in the all-time wins list among four-year college men's basketball coaches. Holmquist's 964 wins are third-most among active college coaches, only falling behind Mike Krzyzewski of Duke (1,100) and Herb Magee of NCAA Division II Jefferson University (1,074). Holmquist has averaged 22.8 wins-per-season, including his three years at Fresno Pacific when he first got started in the mid-1970s. If he can get 22 wins this year, he'd set himself up well for a run at win 1,000 in YEAR 40.

MR. 1,000: Trevor Treinen eclipsed 1,000 career points in his last game last season. The four-year senior comes is up to 1,110 points after a productive preseason. He 334 points-per-season over his last three years, with a career-best 442 points last year. If he can get around 375 this season, he could move into the top-10 all-time among Biola Men's Basketball players. He's currently on pace for around 380 points this season. The current No. 10 is Bryan Weakley (1998-02) at 1,322. The highest spot he could likely reach would be seventh. He'd need 417 points to pass Roger Poppen (1960-63) for that spot. Treinen is also near the top of the Biola record books in three-pointers made. He comes into this season with 148 through his first three seasons, eighth all-time. He's within 50 of passing Marcus White, Dakari Archer, Nate Rakestraw, Pierre Zook and Doug Newby to move into third all-time behind Weakley (236) and Danny Campbell (203).

NEXT WEEK: vs. Azusa Pacific (5-4, 2-0 PacWest) - Saturday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. WEAR RED, Students, staff, faculty, alumni are free. FREE IN-N-OUT beginning at 6:30 p.m.
