Signing Annoucement for Colbey-Shae Emery

Tennis Goals Bring Emery To BU

Colbey-Shae Emery commits to Biola Tennis to pursue a publicity career on the pro tour while continuing to play the game at a high level.

December 03, 2018

VENTURA, Calif. --- Colbey-Shae Emery has two parallel passions connected to tennis. The Ventura-native plays the game at a high-level, as her No. 46 state ranking on tennisrecruiting.net shows, and wanted to continue to compete in the college ranks. But she also wants to pursue employment in the marketing and business side of the ATP/WTA tour.

Emery decided that Biola's up-and-coming women's tennis program and the good reputation of the University's business and public communication majors were the best fit for those two goals and has committed to join Head Coach David Goodman's group beginning in Fall 2019.

While studying at El Camino High School Emery played tennis for Buena HS, where she and sister Caisey-Lee Emery won every match they played as a doubles team during Colbey-Shae's freshman year. Colbey-Shae won All-Channel League and all-county honors that year before being named league MVP and taking the Channel League singles title as a sophomore.

Following those two years, Emery decided to focus on her studies and her play on the junior circuit while sister Caisey-Lee wound up at Cal State Fullerton and posted a 15-10 singles record for the Titans in 2017-18. Not to be outdone Colbey-Shae finished up her play this past summer with championships at the San Fernando Valley Tennis Classic and at the 2018 Long Beach Junior Open. She also beat the No. 2 seed at the ITA Summer Circuit 6-2, 6-1 this past July to advance to the semifinals.

Emery will have completed her general education requirements by the time she enrolls at Biola and plans to major in public relations initially. She has taken honors classes all throughout her time at El Camino High and is excited for the ways Biola will help her develop in a variety of facets.

"I chose Biola because of the Christian atmosphere, coaching staff, and great academics. I also really wanted to be close to my sister," said Emery.
