December 19, 2018

PICO RIVERA, Calif. --- Biola Softball adds strikeout machine Raylene Roybal to its class of 2019 committed recruits. Roybal is headed into her senior season at Calvary Chapel Christian School (Downey) and already has three All-CIF honors and three league championships under her belt.

"We're so excited to add Raylene to our team," said Head Coach Nikki Udria. "Raylene exhibits a strong presence in the pitching circle and we are thrilled to add another competitive pitcher to our staff. We have high expectations for her but have no doubts that Raylene will far exceed those the minute she steps on the field as an Eagle."

During her freshman season, Roybal went 18-3 and helped her team to a 22-3 overall mark and perfect 8-0 mark in league games. For her career, she's got a 2.11 earned run average, has won 36 games and has 435 strikeouts in 327 innings pitched.

She's earned the All-CIF honors, was named all-league first team, has been her team's MVP and also the league MVP. She was her school's female athlete of the year as a sophomore and was also given the Association of Christian Schools International's Distinguished Christian High School Student Award.

It's not only been in the pitching circle that Roybal's experienced success. She's also got a career batting average of .527 with 98 hits and 83 RBI in 65 games.

"I chose Biola because it offers great Christian community to grow your faith in Christ," said Roybal. "It is a beautiful Christ-centered environment, where God is first in everything they do. I can't wait to walk out of Biola with a degree and pursue what God has in store for me. Not only will Biola shape me as a better individual but become a light to this world."

Outside of softball and her studies, Roybal enjoys going on mission trips to Ensenada, Baja California to minister to kids at an orphanage. She plans to study elementary education and pursue a career as an elementary school teacher.

Catch Raylene at Freedom Field in the spring of 2020 as she pushes Biola towards postseason contention in its first season eligible.
