LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Seven Eagles who earned All-PacWest honors after the 2018 soccer season can now add All-American recognitions to their resume after the NCCAA announced it's All-American teams this week.

On the heels of his PacWest Goalkeeper of the Year award, junior Luis Rodriguez led the four selections from the men's soccer team with his placement on the All-American second team. Atu Galadima, captain Kousei Mattox and Leo Thompson also earned All-American status as third-team members.

The total of four selection for BUMS doubles the number of Eagles who were selected as All-Americans last year (Mattox and Sammy McKay).

All four men played pivotal roles in the Eagles' impressive showing during PacWest play this season. Rodriguez led all PacWest keepers in goals against average (1.25) while Thompson led the Eagles with 11 goals and four multi-goal matches. Galadima came on strong during conference matches with dynamic play as Mattox shifted to centerback and excelled just as much in that role as he did in his center holding-midfielder position for Biola.

For their efforts, the women's soccer team matched the number of All-Americans from the 2017 season with three selections.

Defender Colie Martin was recognized with the award for the second-consecutive year and landed on the second team with fellow junior Sarah Jeffries. Both Jeffries and Martin played over 1,300 minutes for Biola in 2018 and accumulated at least three assists. But Jeffries would go onto lead her team in every offensive category, including goals (six) and assists (five).

Additionally, Katelyn Penner finished off her first season of collegiate soccer with a flourish by appearing on the All-American third team. Penner's 18 starts and 1,600 minutes on the pitch were also recognized with All-PacWest First Team recognition since most of her production came against conference opponents. Penner scored both of her goals and recorded all three of her assists during PacWest matches.

After the conclusion of this fall semester, both soccer teams will begin preparation for Biola's first year of NCAA postseason eligibility in 2019.
