Jay Sullenger Steps Down

Biola will begin a search for Interim Head Baseball Coach next week.

November 09, 2018

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola announces the resignation of Head Baseball Coach Jay Sullenger, effective Nov. 9, 2018.

Coach Sullenger spent five seasons at the helm of the Biola Baseball team and finishes his time at BU with a 137-137 (.500) overall record. He led the Eagles to three-consecutive 30-win seasons and postseason berths.

"I am so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of a life-changing University like Biola," said Sullenger. "My family and I leave with heavy hearts but are full of faith and expectation for what God will do next."

Last season, the Eagles' first in the PacWest Conference, Sullenger led the team to a 34-22 overall record and 21-19 record in conference play.

In addition to his work at Biola, coach Sullenger invested in the local community through baseball camps and working with Fellowship of Christian Athletes So. Cal Catch summer ball team.

"It was a privilege to learn, serve, lead and minister alongside so many gifted people and athletes," said Sullenger. "Biola is a special place because of the leadership of Dr. Barry Corey and his team. I am also thankful for the wisdom and leadership of Coach Holmquist and to be a part of the transition into NCAA with Dr. Bethany Miller, Eddie Shepard and the team. God is on the move!"

Biola will fill the position with an interim head coach for the remainder of the 2018-19 school year. Check the Biola Human Resources website for the job posting. It will go live early next week.

"I cannot wait to see what God continues to do with Biola Baseball. It is a team and program on the move. It was an honor to lead and serve the men and families in that program," said Sullenger.
