Moving On

Biola Volleyball wins championship rematch to set up another rematch in the semis.

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. --- The Eagles punched their ticket to the National Christian College Athletic Association Semifinals with an emphatic victory over Campbellsville on Friday morning.

It was a rematch of last year's NCCAA Championship match, and this time the Eagles did not wait around for a fourth set, instead dismissing the Lady Tigers in three sets (25-22, 25-10, 25-16).

"I'm so happy with how this team came out and did what it was supposed to do and win the pool," said Head Coach Aaron Seltzer. "These are all well coached teams with some good players that we are facing, so to be able to win all three and win in three games is a great accomplishment."

Sabrina Winslow carried the Eagles through the tight first game, nearly reaching double-digits and hitting around .600 in what was the closest set of the match. The set was tied up as late as 18-all, but the Eagles did what they needed to do to lock it up.

After that, Biola's blockers really took over and made life difficult for the Campbellsville hitters. In the second game, Biola held the Lady Tigers to just five kills and forced nine attack errors, resulting in a -.111 hitting percentage by CU. That's the lowest hitting percentage by a Biola opponent in a single set all season long.

Biola would end the match with 11 total blocks, with senior setter Brinley Beresford leading that effort with one solo stuff and five block assists. Beresford also once again led Biola in assists with 18. She's now up over 2,500 career assists at Biola.

The third set was Biola's cleanest offensive game of the day. They committed zero attack errors and hit .407, but only had 11 of their 25 points come from kills. The rest were by way of blocks, nine CU attack errors and serving.

The Eagles had 44 kills in the match, which is the best number for BU at this tournament so far. They had 43 in both contests on Thursday. Through the first three matches (all of pool play), Biola recorded 130 kills while hitting .350 as a team. The Eagles have upped their season hitting percentage to .268, which is the best mark in the PacWest Conference.

Winslow turned her phenomenal first game into another phenomenal match. She's had three of those so far this week. The junior outside hitter finished with a team-high (and season-best) 15 kills while hitting .444. She also had eight digs and a pair of blocks in a well-rounded outing.

"I thought Sabrina did a really good job today," said Seltzer. "At this point in the season, any one on the team can step up and get the job done for you at any time and today, it was Sabrina."

She was the only Eagle to reach double-digit kills. Sierra Bauder (7) and Savannah Hilde (6) had the next most. Most notable was the two that came from Kaitlin O'Brien, just the 11th and 12th of her three-year Biola career.

O'Brien also had an ace and seven digs in a solid outing. Bauder (5) and Bekah Roth (4) were integral in the Eagles' ability to out-block Campbellsville 11-3.

The win brings Biola to 28-6 overall and sets them up for a Friday afternoon NCCAA Semifinal match at 2:30 p.m. The Eagles will play either Southwestern Assemblies of God University or Grace College. The two teams were a part of a three-way tie in the other pool and are playing a one-set playoff to see which team advances to face Biola.
