LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola is right near the top of the PacWest Conference Commissioners' Cup standings following yet another successful fall season. The Eagles, Azusa Pacific and Point Loma make up a stacked top-3 teams through one-third of the 2018-19 school year.

Point Loma leads the standings, with an overall point total of 51, averaging 12.75 per sport sponsored. Azusa Pacific is second, with 62 total points and an average of 12.4. Finally, Biola rounds out the top-3 schools with 59 total points and an average of 11.8 points on a per-sport basis.

"We are incredibly proud of what our programs have accomplished to this point in the season," said Associate Athletic Director Eddie Shepard. "The hard work of our student-athletes, staff and support from across campus has paid off with some fantastic results. Getting our first conference championship this fall is something we won't ever forget."

The Commissioners' Cup is awarded on an annual basis to one PacWest institution. The winning institution is the team that has the best overall average point total based on the number of PacWest sports it sponsors.

The PacWest Commissioner's Cup scoring system awards points to schools based on their finishes in conference-sponsored sports. Point totals vary from sport to sport and are based upon the number of schools competing. Regular-season standings are used for baseball, basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball, while the results of the conference championships in the sports of cross country, golf and tennis.

Biola's top-earning teams from this fall season were men's cross country (15 points), volleyball (13 points) and women's cross country (12 points). Fifteen points is the most available in any one sport and goes to the conference champion. This fall, Head Coach Sean Henning's men's cross country team won Biola its first-ever PacWest Championship.

Biola Volleyball went 19-3 in conference play to finish second to APU (20-2), while women's cross country had a fantastic conference championship meet to bring home a third place finish.

Men's Soccer (5th) and Women's Soccer (6th) both finished in the top half of the conference standings to contribute as well. Biola is once again the only school to sponsor all 15 conference sports.

The next Commissioners' Cup standings will be released following the conclusion of the winter sports season. That season includes men and women's basketball.

The departure of California Baptist to NCAA Division I opens the door for a new Commissioners' Cup winner this year, after the Lancers claimed it in each of the last five seasons. Azusa Pacific finished second last season, Point Loma fourth and Biola eighth.
