FAIRBANKS, Alaska --- Biola Swim & Dive took two flights up to the Pacific Northwest, as Pacific Northwest as it gets, for the semi-annual dual meet with the University of Alaska at Fairbanks Nanooks. The two-day meet begins at 7 p.m. PT on Friday and will finish up mid-day Saturday.

UAF DUAL MEET: Friday - Saturday Nov. 16-17
Biola's women's team made the trek up to Alaska for the first time since Oct. 2015, when Eddie Shepard was still head coach. This is the third time the Eagles have flown north for the winter to compete head-to-head with the Nanooks. Alaska-Fairbanks comes down south once a year as a member of the Pacific Collegiate Swim & Dive Conference, competing at the conference championship meet. Last season, these two sides finished close together at those PCSC Championships, with the Eagles taking eighth with 506 points and UAF finishing 10th with 444 points. When the two teams last met head-to-head in 2015, the Nanooks won the first meet 126-97 and the second 119-85. Biola and UAF have a shared opponent this season. The Nanooks split with Azusa Pacific in mid-October, ending up with a final score of 205-200 in favor of UAF. Biola lost its one dual meet to APU, 105-100. All that to say, this weekend should be a close one! Biola, however, will come in as the much more depleted team, having five meet weekends (7 days of swimming) under its belt, while UAF has had just two dates of competition so far this season.

ABOUT LAST MEET: The last meet was dubbed the start of Slow-Vember by Head Coach Ryan Kauth. It's the time of year where he's OK with his swimmers not recording their top times, but rather just showing a good, competitive spirit as they ready themselves for the first week of December and the Collegiate Winter Invite. The Winter Invite is a highlight every year, as it's one of the two fastest meets Biola will typically swim. That's the meet that the team used to use to record all its qualifying times for NAIA nationals. Now, its used to get a gauge on the top times Kauth and his team can expect when they next go all-out at the end-of-year PCSC Conference meet. Even with this tempered approach to last week's SOKA Invitational, Biola still got four individual event wins from the likes of Emily Silzel, Raymond Kam, Clayton Owens and Jonathan Villa.
