LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It is not a battle for Cornerstone Cup points, but the head-to-head dual between Azusa Pacific and Biola Swim & Dive this Saturday is just as important a rivalry meeting as there is this year. The two sides have met each year since the 2008-09 season. This year, Biola's men are sitting out the meet, since APU does not sponsor men's swim & dive.

Biola and Azusa Pacific have a long history in the pool together, and unfortunately most of that history has the Cougars coming out on top. However, Head Coach Ryan Kauth is building a program with high aspirations and the culture could be about to change. The Eagles lost this meet last season, 160-74, and they go in at a disadvantage with APU having a handful of divers to earn extra points. But, Biola has seen a lot of terrific outcomes already this season and is riding high off of its win last week, so we will have to wait and see how things turn out. Kauth has 16 swimmers set to swim three events a piece and scoop up as many points possible to try and flip the script from last year. Keep an eye on the 1,000-yard freestyle featuring Annie Bristow, Katelyn Harper and Kaylyn Schull and a 200-butterfly that features Rachel Stinchcomb, Faith McAllister and Bristow. Those groups could bring in a lot of points for BU.
MEET ENTRIES
ABOUT LAST MEET: Biola tasted victory up in the Bay Area as the Eagles' combined men and women's scores earned them a meet championship at the Bay Area Invite. The Eagles' combined for 1,033 points last Saturday to edge out the second-place UC Santa Cruz team by a narrow 20-point margin. It marked the first time Biola had won that meet. Biola made up over 85 points from last year, when it finished second place to UCSC by a good margin.
Nicole Chang, Clayton Owens and
Annie Bristow were all able to earn individual wins for BU and the team provided a ton of top-10 finishes to get BU over the 1k mark in total points. Prior to the Invite, the teams competed in the Bay Area Double Duals, with the teams winning four of their six head-to-head duals. Only perennial powerhouse CSU East Bay was better on the day.
PCSC'S BEST: As a result of last week's efforts,
Annie Bristow and Clayton Owens were rewarded with their first-ever PCSC Swimmer of the Week honors. Owens had three top-3 finishes on Friday and followed it up with two wins, a second place, a fourth place and a pair of seventh-place finishes in an expanded field on Saturday. Bristow had three top-5 finishes on Friday and then managed five top-10 finishes, including a win, on Saturday. All-in-all, she completed 2,800 yards in the pool in the two days.
