LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It's the first week of the 2018-19 Biola Swim & Dive season and the kick-off of year two under Head Coach Ryan Kauth. The Eagles are hosting the rest of the Pacific Collegiate Swim & Dive Conference for the annual PCSC Relays and PCSC Pentathlon on Friday and Saturday at SPLASH! Aquatic Center.

PCSC RELAY MEET: Friday Oct. 5 at 1:30 p.m. \\ Live Results
Biola Swim and Dive begins its new season with the annual PCSC relays. This meet features 10 different unique relays for each gender, including the likes of the 3x100y relays for each stroke and a 500-yard freestyle relay featuring swimmers each swimming a different length for each leg of the relay (50, 100, 150, 200). Both the relay meet and Saturday's pentathlon will have swimmers pushed outside of the comfort zone to some level with the distances and strokes they will swim, but it's always a fun way to begin the year. The relay day also features standard one-meter and three-meter diving. Biola will have at least one team competing in 23 of the 24 total events, only not sending in a team for the women's 3 x 500y freestyle relay, which has seed times ranging between 15:55 and 16:41, making it the longest event of the day. Biola's women's 'A' teams have the top seed time in the final two relays of the day, the 400-IM relay and the 400-freestyle relay.

PCSC PENTATHLON MEET: Saturday Oct. 6 at 10:00 a.m. \\ Live Results
The long weekend at SPLASH! continues on Saturday morning with the first individual swims of the year as part of the PCSC Pentathlon. This pentathlon meet is a unique one where swimmers choose one of three 5-event tracks they want to participate in. The options are a short medley pentathlon (50y of each stroke and 100-IM), long medley pentathlon (100y of each stroke and 200-IM) or the freestyle pentathlon (25, 50, 100, 200, 500-free). Last season all Biola swimmers participated in either the long medley or freestyle pentathlon. Raymond Kam is the top male returner, finishing eighth overall in the men's long medley pentathlon last year. Emily Silzel is the top returning female finisher, finishing fourth last season in the women's long medley relay.

GROWTH IS GOOD: Biola's men's team had just 10 members last season, making it difficult to score points and place high in a lot of meets. Especially considering it was rare to ever have all 10 in the pool at the same meet. This year, Kauth's built a roster of 13 thanks to six newcomers. This includes a male diver in Caleb Andrews, who is the first male diver for Biola since NAIA Champion Shane Brinson a few years back. The men's side has a good nucleus of young talent, and it is led by it's lone senior, distance specialist Noah Reed.

UP AND COMING: On the women's side, the Eagles do not have a Tixier on the roster for the first time since the 2010-11 season. However, Kauth went out and recruited a fantastic incoming class that should fill that hole pretty well. The Eagles have loads of talented returners - highlighted by Emily Silzel, Rachel Stinchcomb and Bethany Harper, but they've also added eight newcomers to round out a talented roster.
